ABOUT
Alexander (Oleksander) Masyk, American and Ukrainian artist, Master of Fine Arts, was born in Konotop, Ukraine, in the family of the honored artist of Ukraine Vladimir Masyk. From childhood, Alexander was surrounded by an artistic atmosphere. His father took him for sketches, opened to him the nuts and bolts of painting still life and landscape. Naturally, Alezander enrolled at and successfully graduated from Ukrainian Taras Shevchenko State Art School in Kyiv with honor in 1965, and from Kyiv National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture (NAOMA), Ukraine in 1972.

Alexander was a classically trained award-winning artist. From the end of 2011 he resided in New York. Alexander Masyk became a Resident Artist of the prestigious Salmagundi Club of New York in 2019 , a member of Oil Painters of America (OPA) from 2018, an elected member of Allied Artists of America (AAA) from 2019, a member of the National Oil & Acrylic Painter’s Society (NOAPS) from 2018, the American Artists Professional League (AAPL) elected member from 2019, Impressionist Society of America (ISA) member from 2018, Audubon Artists member from 2019, Pastel Society of America (PSA) from 2019, National Society of Painters (NSP) in Casein & Acrylic from 2019, Houston Art Society (HAS) member from 2021, National Union of Young Ukrainian Artists from 1976, National Union of Ukrainian Artists member from 1995.
Masyk created his artistic world easily and naturally because he himself was filled with creative inspiration and a desire to reflect the surrounding beauty in his works. Everything that attracted the artist’s attention, turned into completed painting, which you would like to have in your dwelling. Alexander Masyk had a special natural gift of the vision of his future work’s composition. He worked quickly, his brush confidently models the form, and his color solutions represented a real solution performance in different genres of which the artist had a perfect command. Artist worked well in oil and tempera painting, pastel drawing, owns etchings, linocuts, and woodcuts.
Alexander Masyk has been taking part in exhibitions since 1970 and has won numerous awards. He visited a lot of countries and his paintings eloquently tell about his trips. In the creative artist’s asset, there are more than 160 exhibitions in Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria, China, Greece, and the United States. His works are in numerous museums and private collections in Canada, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Australia, Switzerland, Morocco, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, Hungary, France, Japan, Egypt, Mexico, and China.
- In 2024, one of the streets in Alexander’s native city of Konotop in Ukraine was renamed Oleksandr Masyk Street. Oleksandr (Alexander) Masyk (07.23.1947-10.24.2021) was a famous painter, graphic artist, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, a native of the city of Konotop. This decision demonstrates recognition of Alexander Masyk's merits in his homeland and the desire to perpetuate his memory.
